Virtual Baby Shower

If your pregnant like I am during the corona virus and keeping your loved ones at a safe distance and also wondering how you can still go ahead with a baby shower...

Many moms-to-be are now thinking of ways to still go ahead with their plans using their laptops or smartphones, where everyone can still meet up and celebrate your oh baby news. Virtual belly rubs it is!

Here are some #TIPS on having a special gathering with friends and family and feel the love during these difficult times.

Social Apps -

These free social video apps are great platforms to set-up your baby shower:

  • Facetime

  • Google Hangouts

  • Houseparty

  • Zoom

Virtual Baby Shower Timeline -

Although you don't have strict timings to adhere to and an actual venue to attend, having a rough timeline will help with a smooth event. Example below:

If you have 40 minutes:

  • 11–11:05 a.m. Catch up with those who “arrive” to the chat early and let everyone figure out how to navigate the video call and prep for the party.

  • 11:05–11:25 a.m. Let the games begin!

  • 11:25-11:35: Open gifts, if you're choosing to do so. (If you'd prefer not to open gifts during your virtual shower, you can skip this step and devote another 10 minutes to games.)

  • 11:35–11:40 a.m. Virtual goodbyes!

Send Out Your Virtual Invites -

Next, it's time to appoint someone to send out invitations. That can be you!

Consider sending out e-invites, which is Eco-friendly and have fun creating a bespoke design.

Set-Up Your Baby Registry -

If you haven't already done so, now is a great time to create your baby registry (you may also want to include a link to it on your invitation). Many moms-to-be already prefer online baby registries. Here’s a list of the most popular baby registries out there, which you can start signing up for right now.

Virtual Decor and Styling -

This is completely optional, but I highly suggest adding pink and blue or maybe neutral if baby sex is unknown touches to make your space more special. Here are some ideas to get you thinking.

  • Hanging bunting, baby grows or greenery

  • Cookies and milk en-tray (these can also be gifted)

  • Fruit platter for those healthy moms-to-be

  • Balloon installation

  • Flower wall

  • Scented candles for ambiance

Let the Games Begin!

Here are some great games for everyone to enjoy and laugh at!

  • The price is right - The host holds up various baby items (such as a onesie, bottle or toy) and guests guess how much they cost.

  • Name the baby song - The host plays different nursery rhymes or popular baby songs and guests try to guess the name as quickly as they can.

  • Who's that baby - Before the call starts, ask guests to email photos of themselves as babies to the host. The host shares them with the group and everyone tries to guess who is who.

  • How well do you know Mom - Create or download a template up to 10 personal questions for example: where was she born, whats her ultimate pregnancy craving, when is her due date, how many kids does she want?

Special Note -

Having to cancel your baby shower is understandably frustrating. But the need for a Plan B may actually be a great opportunity. My advice is to embrace everything that’s possible with a virtual shower. It’s different, but it can be an amazing experience. Above all see fun in the new experience.
